Travel Insurance - Giving You Peace of Mind

Travel insurance is one of those things that seems expensive until you need it. It only takes one instance of getting sick overseas, losing your luggage or a taxi accident in a foreign country to help you realize that it doesn’t hurt to come prepared.

A canceled flight or postponed family reunion is a major downer — particularly if any aspect of your trip is nonrefundable — but a travel insurance policy can get you nearly all of your money back.

Just like all products that offer peace of mind, travel insurance does involve an up-front investment, starting at around 4% of the total trip cost. When considering insurance, think about how much you’re investing in your trip and how much that peace of mind is worth to you.

In the off chance that an emergency arises, you’ll want someone available 24/7 to answer the phone or reply to your text.

Remember no one ever expects the unexpected.

How does travel insurance work?

  1. It’s meant to refund non-refundable deposits. As your travel advisor I can help you with any of the refundable portions of your trip that are offered by the suppliers. Policies differ by supplier, I will help you sift through the fine print at booking.

  1. Cancellation insurance reimburses costs if travel is canceled for medical issues. You never know whether you might get sick (or break your leg like I did) right before travelling. Sometimes you just have to cancel that trip you were looking forward to – there is no way around it.

  1. Trip interruption coverage covers unexpected costs in the case of an airline delay. It has been all over the news lately – air travel is chaotic. Why not calm the chaos with the peace of mind travel protection offers. You never know, your flight might get cancelled and you miss your cruise departure or connecting flight – trip interruption coverage can help you out.

  1. You can also insure against damage to your luggage, lost luggage, or luggage delay. Let’s say you arrive in Italy but your luggage didn’t, let the insurance company foot the bill for a new wardrobe.

  1. The best time to purchase your travel insurance is when you put down a deposit. You’ll get the best coverage at the best price. However, there are packages you can add on at any point before travel.

What do policies cover?

Insurance policies differ in cost and inclusions. As your travel advisor I can sit with you and help you choose a policy that meets your needs. Some policies include:

  1. Medical Insurance: If you get sick or injured during your trip, this coverage helps with medical expenses, including hospital stays and doctor visits.

  1. Baggage and Personal Belongings: Loss, damage or theft of luggage and personal items during the trip are reimbursed.

  1. Emergency Medical Evacuation: Transportation to a qualified medical facility is covered if you are seriously ill or injured in a location that cannot provide necessary care.

  1. Cancel for Any Reason (CFAR): This is an add-on to standard insurance that allows you to cancel your trip for any reason, typically offering partial reimbursement.

What do I do next?

  1. Get Advice: Ask an experienced travel advisor for recommendations.

  1. Select Coverage: Work with an advisor to evaluate risks and decide on the right coverage for your trip.

  1. Evaluate Options: Add-ons like CFAR, rental car coverage or even extreme sports coverage can be added to base premium.

  1. Answer Questions: Providers require basic details, including your destination, age and total trip cost.

  1. Purchase Insurance: Once you’ve selected coverage, an advisor can add a policy to your itinerary in just a few minutes.

  1. Keep paperwork: Save receipts for any unplanned hotel stays, new flights and meals that will support your claim.
