Walt Disney World Resort Guide

Confused About Walt Disney World Resort Choices?

Planning a Walt Disney World vacation can feel like navigating a theme park before you've even booked a flight — exciting, a little overwhelming, and full of choices. Think of choosing the right resort like choosing the right base camp before a big hike: where you stay shapes everything else. That's where I come in.

As a Certified Disney Vacation Planner and family travel advisor, I've done the legwork so you don't have to. This guide walks you through the four resort tiers at Walt Disney World — Value, Moderate, Deluxe, and Disney Vacation Club — so you can make the best decision for your family and your budget.

Understanding the Resort Tiers

Disney's resorts are organized into four amenity tiers — Value, Moderate, Deluxe, and Disney Vacation Club (DVC). Think of it like a hotel star-rating system, but with pixie dust. Each tier offers something genuinely different, and the right fit depends on what matters most to your family.

Disney’s Value Resorts

Disney’s Value resorts start at about $200 CAD. Prices vary greatly depending on travel dates and promotions offered. Disney does a great job offering promotions exclusively to Canadians to help combat the exchange rate.

Disney’s Value Resorts include:

  • Disney’s All Star Movies Resort

  • Disney’s All Star Music Resort

  • Disney’s All Star Sports Resort

  • Disney’s Pop Century Resort

  • Disney’s Art of Animation Resort

These resorts have larger than life theming – making even the oldest one in your group feel like a little kid again.

For more detail specific to each resort, see my Ultimate Walt Disney World Resort Guide at the bottom of the page.

Disney's Coronado Springs Resort

Disney’s Moderate Resorts

Disney’s Moderate resorts are priced at about $300 CAD and above. They offer more amenities than the Value resorts at a lower price point than the Deluxe resorts, making it a sweet spot for most families.

Disney’s Moderate Resorts include:

  • Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort

  • Disney’s Port Orleans – French Quarter Resort

  • Disney’s Port Orleans – Riverside Resort

  • Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort

These resorts offer beautiful resort-style pools, table-service dining, and that extra sprinkle of magic that makes the whole trip feel special. Many have additional transportation options to some of the parks or Disney Springs.

I break down the different themes in my Walt Disney World Resort Guide below.

Disney's Polynesian Village Resort

Disney’s Deluxe Resorts

Deluxe resorts are the crown jewels of Walt Disney World. They offer immersive theming, multiple dining options, spa services, and — most importantly — proximity. When you're staying at a Magic Kingdom Deluxe resort, you can walk or take a monorail straight to the park. That 10 PM fireworks viewing from your room balcony? That's real. And it's worth every penny.

Disney’s Deluxe Resorts include:

  • Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge

  • Disney’s Beach Club Resort

  • Disney’s Boardwalk Inn

  • Disney’s Contemporary Resort

  • Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort

  • Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort

  • Disney’s Wilderness Lodge

  • Disney’s Yacht Club Resort

These resorts offer the most amenities, dining options, and the best proximity to the parks. You will really feel like a princess staying at one of these beautiful resorts.

For my take on which resorts are worth the splurge, check out my Ultimate Walt Disney World Resort Guide below.

Disney's Riviera Resort

Disney Vacation Club Villas

DVC Villas offer something the other tiers don't: space. Think one-bedroom, two-bedroom, and even grand villa configurations with full kitchens, multiple bathrooms, and living areas. If you're travelling with grandparents, extended family, or simply don't want to share one room with three kids after a 12-hour park day — DVC villas are your answer.

You don't need to be a DVC member to book these. Villas can be rented through Disney directly when availability exists. I can walk you through all the options.

Disney’s Villas include:

  • Disney’s Animal Kingdom Villas

  • Disney’s Beach Club Villas

  • Disney’s Boardwalk Villas

  • Bay Lake Tower at Disney’s Contemporary Resort

  • The Villas at Disney’s Grand Floridian

  • Boulder Ridge Villas at Wilderness Lodge

  • Copper Creek Villas & Cabins at Wilderness Lodge

  • Disney’s Old Key West Resort

  • Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows

  • Disney’s Riviera Resort

  • Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa

These resorts offer the most size and options for bigger groups. Most have full kitchens, multiple bathrooms, and laundry in the room – priceless for larger families.

Why Use a Travel Advisor to Help with Your Disney Vacation?

Here's something a lot of Canadian families don't realize: booking Walt Disney World from Canada isn't as simple as clicking 'Buy Now' on the Disney website. Between exchange rates, package structures, travel insurance, air-land combinations, and the sheer number of decisions involved — it's easy to leave money on the table or miss out on perks you're entitled to.

Why Use Me to Plan Your Disney Vacation?

I monitor Disney promotions and apply them to your booking automatically — even after you've booked.

  1. I handle dining reservations, Lightning Lane strategy, park-hopper decisions, and crowd calendar planning so you don't have to google it all at midnight.

  1. I'm here if anything goes sideways — flight delays, hotel issues, park emergencies. You're not alone.

  1. I build in real CAD budgeting so there are no surprise credit card bills when you get home.

Quick Planning Tips for Canadian Families

Book 6–12 months out.

Disney dining reservations open 60 days in advance and the best spots fill fast. The earlier we start planning, the better options you'll have.

Consider travel insurance seriously.

You're crossing an international border. Trip cancellation, medical coverage, and flight delay protection are non-negotiable recommendations from me.

Think about how you are getting to and from the resort.

Your resort choice affects your daily commute to the parks. A Deluxe resort near Magic Kingdom can save you 40+ minutes of transit per day — which adds up over a week-long trip.

Plan for some park-free days.

How do you see yourself spending your time when you are not in the parks? Shopping, dining, and pool options vary greatly by resort - lets make sure you are where you need to be to get the most out of your relaxation time.

Don't forget the little ones' needs.

Nap schedules, stroller rentals, dietary restrictions — I build all of this into your itinerary so it's not an afterthought when you're already there.
